Research team


Univ.-Prof.in Hanne Pilgrim
is a rhythmician (a transdisciplinary method of approaching music & movement), pianist and performer which is currently based in Vienna, leading the department of Music&Movement/Rythmics at the University of Music and Performing Arts (since October 2017). After her studies of Rythmics and Piano at the University of the Arts in Berlin and several further educations in contemporary dance Hanne Pilgrim worked in different artistic fields. As a pianist she focused on chambermusic, theatremusic and experimental band projects; as a performer she worked in the field of contemporary dance and contemporary music theatre. Hanne Pilgrim was a lecturer for piano improvisation, rhythmics and performance studies at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Franz Liszt Hochschule in Weimar and has given workshops in Europe and Asia. 



Adrián Artacho, BA MA
  is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Music and Performing Arts of Vienna, researching the use of technology to enhance performer capabilities. He is an active performer of live electronics either solo or in different configurations, including visuals and a self-constructed musical instruments. Besides his purely artistic work, Artacho has developed several science communication projects in behalf of the University of Vienna, including the “Sounds of Matter” international composition competition. Additionally, he is artistic director of Neues Atelier - arts collective and founder of the dance companies Tanz.Labor.Labyrinth and SyncLab Tanzkollektiv. 



Dr. Mariama Diagne
 works as Postdoc at the Department of Cultural Management and Gender Studies (IKM) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw). After studies in classical ballet and modern dance, she completed her Ph. D. thesis on concepts and qualities of gravity in European art and science, with a focus on German choreographer Pina Bausch (2018), for which she was granted the Tiburtius Prize for outstanding research of the Universities of Berlin. Her research focusses the intertwining of theory and practice within a critical inquiry of the history and historicity of dance and culture, and its embedment in Eurocentric structures. As a dramaturge she accompanied artists and their stage works in postcolonial-based contexts. Since 2019 she is president of the society of dance research (gtf) for Germany, Austria and Switzerland and member of the NFDI4C steering board (digital/izing cultural heritage) for the performing arts.



The project wouldn't have been possible without a team of artists-researchers from the Music & Movement/Rhythmics department of the University of Music and Performing Arts:


Magdalena Eidenhammer graduated at the leading music universities in Austria's Mozarteum Salzburg and mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with a BacheIor of Arts in Elemental Music and Dance Pedagogy and a Master in Music and Movement Education/ Rhythmics. As a student she focused on the internalization of the connection between music, dance and language. She stayed abroad at the UFRN in Natal / Brazil (department of physical theatre) in 2017 and takes part as a dancer at numerous artistic productions by "DasCollectif" under choreographer Irina Pauls (Tohuwabohu; Carmina Austriaca; Limes; Veni Venias). From 2018-2020 she worked as a voice instructor at the Tölzer Boys Choir in Munich/Germany. Since then she focuses on holistic body work in classical singing and stage presence training and is currently a speaker for music, dance and children's voice training.

 

Benedikt Berner is a rhythmician, singer and Musical actor, currently studying for his master’s degree in Rhythmics at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. During his Rhythmics and Musical studies in Vienna Benedikt Berner was part of several shows and performances (e.g. german premiere of „First Date“ and plays for children) as well he created the entertainment show „Let’s Fly Away“. As rhythmician and dancer he gives dance classes for people with disabilities and was giving rhythmics workshops for people with hearing loss. Now Benedikt Berner is focusing on combining electronic composition techniques with contemporary performance concepts in sound and movement.



Dalma Sarnyai is flutist, studying instrumental studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Her musical focus is on modern music and chamber music (particularly with percussion). During her studies she first met with the transdisziplinary art and worked with artists like Marino Formenti and Georg Nussbaumer. Since this experiment she tries to attempt and realize her own interdisciplinary ideas and express herself in this way. Lately she is working on her own project, in which she will define her body as her main instrument. 





Maximilian Resch is a rhythmician, composer and performer. Preceding his studies he was working in the event gastronomy stepping foot in the field of improvisation and movement in public space. As a student composing and performing original music came into focus. Further his studies inspired him to explore the connection of learning and improvisation. As rhythmician he is currently teaching adults in theater education in Cologne/Germany and writing on his thesis for the master’s degree in Rhythmics (Music and Movement) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.





Maria Solberger is a musician, music producer, electronic music composer and rhythmician who is currently based in Berlin. She plays synthesizer in the band Naked Cameo, who released their first album in 2018 with national und international concerts and radio airplay to follow.  Furthermore she works with other artists and bands in the studio or on stage. Last summer she was responsible for the electronic composition of the project „Magna Mater“ in combination with the music-theater-collective „tutti d*amore“. At the moment she finishes her masters degree in  music and movement/rhythmics at the University of Arts in Berlin and the University of Performing Arts in Vienna and teaches piano.


Katharina Püschel Katharina Püschel is a rhythmician. She studied in Vienna at MDW and recently finished her Masters degree with an qualitatively researched artistic Masters thesis, where she interviewed people about communication blockroads. She likes to work with movement and voice. At the moment she works at two schools, where teenagers are educated to become kindergarten teachers. She is a founding member of the non-profit association “Vielfaltfabrik” www.vielfaltfabrik.com






In addition to the main research team, the project counts with the support of two external advisers: 


Elisabeth Orlowsky is a dancer, performer, choreographer and teacher at the Music and Move- ment&Education / Rhythmics department of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. 

Sebastian Prantl is a key figure for independent dance in Austria, as the well as the founder of the Tanz Atelier Wien – TRANS ART WORKS (https://www.transartworks.net).
